South Florida Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

Barky Pines Animal Rescue  & Sanctuary  is a 501C3 non profit, no kill, rescue shelter.  We are three people and a village of dedicated volunteers.

We  take in dogs ,, cats and farm animals, from  Palm Beach County Animal Control [ and dire need owner surrenders when we can]. These animals  have been abandoned, thrown away, lost, sick, hungry, abused, mistreated and left for dead. This mission is not inexpensive and It’s all done daily using donations, grassroots fund-raising and their own money.

As a result , as of 3/2023, Barky Pines has rescued 1300 urgent dogs alone since obtaining 501(c)3 status 2/2015. nearly 1150 have found their forever homes. Sadly some very ill and old have passed on. 25 dogs,  5 cats , and countless farm animals remain in Sanctuary here.  This is the sole reason for what we do here, for the sacrifices made, to save the lives of these homeless animals. Those that can not speak for themselves and deserve to live, be cared for and to  be loved.

Second only to Peggy Adams, for several years a row , these are numbers to be proud of for a small, newly formed organization. In addition, in our first year,  we rescued the most “square head dogs” from the county. The need in our area is so great , and we wanted to do even more.

As a result, Barky Farms  was born . In 2016, the land was purchased and we began tirelessly to clean and clear and ready the farm for the animals.  The first building, “Rita’s Cat House” was donated and  we continued to  prepare the land, slowly we accumulated several more, and were able to save more lives because of it .

The farm has been a lot of work, blood , sweat, tears, and with all the lives we have saved , it is  worth it .  We experienced flooding, hurricane Irma and  more flooding and this has caused an enormous burden on the animals and us as caretakers and  owners . The expense to mitigate, and the loss we incurred, was extreme. At no time did we waver from our mission! We continued to save lives through it all.

We have taken great strides to mitigate future damages,  preparing our own land , and  meeting with key government and private organizations to create awareness and come to resolve.

We have been living humbly as to care for the animals. This is not a 9-5 and someone must always be here with them. Donated RVs solved the issues, as the caretakers had a place to rest. Though we are, what seems in the middle of nowhere, some created issue with our situation.

As a result , we  are now  having to fast forward our plans and create our first concrete, storm safe structure.

Thanks to a legacy gift we have completed construction of a concrete, storm safe barn for the horses, and other animals in the event of a hurricane. The next storm safe, concrete structure is in the works.

In January of 2020 & 2021 & 2022, we were nominated for The Best of Pam Beach County.  It is an honor  to be chosen among all the amazing non profits in our county! We are so grateful for the support of our community!  Congratulations to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League for their win.  We are humbled to have place 1st Runner Up to such an amazing organization that has been around nearly 100 years! It solidifies  that our mission is just!

In January of 2022 we were once again honored by being voted Best Green Business or Organization.
